Thursday Reception
SWIPE at the Washington Club

SWIPE addresses the gathering of data from driver's licenses. With one swipe- often without notification or consent by the cardholder-businesses acquire data that can be used to monitor and profile consumers. SWIPE brings attention to this practice and enables people to see exactly what is stored on their mysterious strip. SWIPE also illustrates how this information is used. The SWIPE project encourages public understanding of databases as a discursive, organizational practice and an essential technique of power in today's social field.
